How to Blow Smoke Rings

September 1, 2009 by GodFadr · Leave a Comment

The term “blowing a smoke ring” is something of a misnomer and probably the reason many cigar smokers fail when attempting their creation.  Most people think they have to exhale to form a ring when, in fact, just the opposite is true. Read more

How to Refresh a Dry Smoke…

April 1, 2009 by GodFadr · 3 Comments

It takes only a few weeks for a cigar to become dry in adverse conditions, but it takes a few months to restore them.  And although dry cigars could be brought back to an acceptable smoking condition, they will probably never be as good as they originally were.

So an ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure.  Don’t let a good cigar go bad.  Read up on humidors and storage options on this website. Read more

How Long Does it Take to Smoke a Cigar?

November 7, 2008 by GodFadr · 5 Comments

Three CigarsThis is a surprisingly common question I get but it is an almost impossible answer. My friend Tommy laughs when I can make a smoke last as long as the “recommended smoke time.”

In a nutshell, the bigger they are the longer they smoke (like you had to go to a Cigar site to figure that out, huh?). Ok, ok, here are few benchmarks…

Presidente (8” – 10”) – about 1 to 1 ½ hours.

Double Corona, Churchill, Lonsdale (7 ½” – 8”) – about 45 minutes to an hour.

Corona Grandes, Corona Extra, Rubusto, Belicoso, Pyramid (5”-7”) – about 30 – 45 minutes.

Petite Corona, Culebra, Ascot – under 30 minutes.

Made in Cuba or Made in Havana?

November 5, 2008 by GodFadr · Leave a Comment

You may have seen or heard two different terms when discribing Cuban Cigars. “Made in Cuba” and “Made in Havana.”

The two words are interchange and in either case come from the island of Cuba. The term “Made in Havana” is largely due to the fact that most Cuban cigars are made in or around Havana.

Did you know you can easily create your own flavored cigars? Just take a few mild smokes (no maduro’s) and put them in a tight sealing container (no need for a humidor for this one). A tupperware bin works great.

Where Did Punch Cigar Get Its Name?

November 4, 2008 by GodFadr · Leave a Comment

punchandjudyYou wouldn’t think a cartoon character would be the inspiration of cigar line, but that is exactly where Punch got its name around 1840.

The name Punch was taken from an English humor magazine (and a very popular puppet show)

The character ”Punch” smoked and stogie and repeatedly hit everyone with his club. You may vaguely recall the names “Punch and Judy” as they were seldem apart.

Who Invented the Cigar Band?

October 27, 2008 by Tommy · Leave a Comment

Sit back, light up your favorite smoke and consider, perhaps for the first time, the lowly band that encircles your cigar. A simple paper ring of no consequence to you… something to be discarded without thought. Yet for some it is an object of great debate, its origin shrouded in mystery and romance. Read more

Cigar Do’s and Don’ts

October 1, 2008 by GodFadr · Leave a Comment

The sum and total of cigar knowledge, lore, etiquette and practical advice could fill dozens and dozens of books.  True cigar aficionados aren’t born; they’re bred with a body of knowledge that is the product of their experience.
